I would do the same thing as you. While I totally respect following any rules given to me as a nanny, if I am told to do something that I personally believe is harmful to a young child, I wouldn't and couldn't stay with a family.

I have been asked to leave a sleeping child in his stroller outdoors for his nap, vacuum for 45 min. while an infant napped (when I shut off the vacuum he had been screaming a long time) and put a child in feet pajamas in the miserable heat.

Needless to say, those jobs didn't last long at all.

The child's safety and welfare are paramount in my job.

The parent is not letting the child go hungry. The child is choosing to go hungry because they are not eating the FOOD that is given to them. Now if a parent refuseed to give any food them that's diffent. But in op's case the child had food but wasn't hungry enough to eat it. It's as if you give a child pasta, broccoli and chicken but they scream their head off and refuse to take 1 bite because they want chocolate cake. Same thing. Clearly they aren't hungry because a child who was starving and didn't know when they would see food again would eat just about anything.

The child in question is 22 months old!
