I agreed and asked what time they would be home on Saturday morning. They said 11, but didn’t end up getting home until 1:30. I made it VERY CLEAR that I had something important to go to at 12. So they were 2.5 hours late and gave no reason.
I told them that while I love their kids, I won’t be able to watch them again since the parents clearly do not respect my time. I am an adult with a career, responsibilities, and a life - I was doing this more as a favor than anything else. If you want someone older/more experienced/more responsible to watch your littles overnight, you should expect that arriving that late will have consequences. I strongly suggest all of you other sitters to stick up for yourself in a similar way (6 hours late?! Um, no)

So do you never make plans in the evening?
And what about your poor charges?! Aren’t they waiting for their parents or wonder where they are?
And this is how wealthy children get neglected by their parents.
That’s a terrible thing to say. As I wrote earlier, I’m paid for 40hrs but only usually work around 25 BECAUSE THE PARENTS ARE HOME WITH THEIR KIDS. They’re usually going out at night to events. The parents are wonderful and involved.

(And let's not turn this into evil MB always late and never pays me because yes, it's a given we should be paid for additional time and our time should be respected. We're talking when for whatever reason the parents are late without letting us know in advance).

I had started at 7 am and usually get off by 6 but after work they decided to do dinner and a movie. They said they would be home around 10 pm. They showed up at 3 am. I never called or texted and they didn't either. I literally thought they were dead. It was totally out of character. Thankfully they were just out at a karaoke bar. But 5 hrs late is ridiculous.
Why on earth didn’t you call or text them?!!
I would have called the police and given my notice when they walked in the door. What a bunch of dirtbags!
