I agree wholeheartedly that in an emergency this would be a huge drawback.

I get the feeling that this woman is working for peanuts and the parents are getting a good deal from her, she is probably an immigrant/migrant.

Plus, their child will be fluent in Spanish.

So they see it as a win-win.
