The PP nanny above you is under the assumption that everything automatically jacks up 5% in cost every year. She has no idea how the world works.
Your dismissal of my opinions and experience because they differ from yours are quite condescending. I don't know what world you live in, but my rent goes up yearly and has every year I've been paying rent. Transportation costs, including gas and metro have skyrocketed in recent years. You're nuts if you think food costs haven't risen. Health insurance premiums increase. On just the rising cost of rent alone, if my employer skimped on a raise, I'd be looking for a new position to start around the time my lease was up. You guys can parse words and numbers all you like, but cost of living increases exist for a reason and are a fact of life. Inflation is in fact a thing. If you pay the same this year as you did last year, your nanny has less in her pocket, and if she's paying attention, she will leave. Its fun to assume all nannies are stupid though, so keep on keepin on.
Your opinions and bad decisions don't change anything. If you want to say that "your" rent and costs have gone up then that is fine, but to imply that everyones costs go up yearly and everyone needs raises is not an opinion, it's just wrong.
I pay the same rent now as I did when I moved in. My grocery costs have remained the same even as I started moving more towards organic and fresher foods. Gas is cheaper this year than it was last year. Etc etc etc

Many, many workers in many businesses have not had a raise in years. That's going to trickle down to nannies in some manner, whether it's in fewer raises or a depression in market rates.
PP.It's probably a good idea to learn to budget better if your expenses really rise more rapidly than COL in this area. Or you can be as stellar as possible to earn a raise from a NF willing to cut their expenses to give you more while they bring in the same or less.
Of course, you can also go job searching every year and hope you can get a new job that pays as well as the one you walked out over another 3% raise for.
There are many good perks families can offer if they can't afford a raise. A smart nanny considers the total compensation package, not just the cash.
