OP here - these were all toddlers who do need constant supervision when out of the house. The nannies should have been engaged in listening to the librarian to set an example to their charges and act interested in the book being read. They texted for the entire 35 minute story time so they were not texting a response quickly. All the mothers were listening and engaged - I was the only nanny who was not texting during this "class". If you don't think this makes nannies look bad, you are mistaken.

IMO, this texting thing is getting out of control. It has become a cliche to see a nanny texting constantly, especially the Latina nannies, but it makes all of us look bad.

It's amazing the rationalizations sub-par nannies come up with to excuse unprofessional behavior. Unless you are really stupid, you know the issue is excessive phone use of any kind, not an occasional text here and there. I'm a nanny and all the nannies with their cell phones glued to their ears while working make ME look bad. Stop it. You want to be on your phone all day, get a job talking on the phone, not caring for someone else's children.

I agree that excessive phone use is terrible. I'm talking to nannies and MBs on here who say nannies should NEVER look at their phone, not once during the day, and absolutely no texts throughout the day.
