So simple. Why not do it?
MB here. We've always done this. It works fine. But we also don't ask our nanny to go to the grocery store either. That $ is for activities, lunch out, etc. And haircuts. Thank you, nanny for taking care of this! Our first nanny would even buy the kids toys. It's always worked out. Honestly, if I worried a nanny would steal <$100 from me, I would never have this person alone with my kids.
I agree with a PP above that this board either has terrible nannies and a few not so great MBs, or we are just really lucky. But I am thinking the former. Where can I find sane discussion about nanny/family issues?

My nanny will pick up a gallon of milk on the way into work-- it is 4 bucks-- I give her 5 back the next morning-- are things so TIGHT that you can't be without your 4 dollars for a day? Do you want interest of 3 pennies to be paid back to you the next day? AND-- I always round up-- so if something costs 9, she gets $10. That is a really stupid thing to get upset about.
You are an ass. Employees should NEVER be expected to put out any amount of money for employer, especially in a nanny situation.
Soooo many employers do it this way. DH's job expects him to front all travel costs. It can run over a grand. It's not an unusual thing at all.
