No, I'm the poster from the Seattle area and know that $25/hr is a common (although not average) rate for nannies in shares here. I also know a nanny who makes that much with twins. I make $21/hr for one so I'm accused of lying on here a lot too. But there is a poster (maybe you maybe not?) who posts high rates in every thread and all I meant was that end of the pay scale is not always relevant, especially without any additional context (special needs, share, high profile, bilingual, home schooling, etc). Outliers are typically not helpful when it comes to informal data is all.
I can speak only for myself here.... When I mention high rates, I refer to either what I have earned or what I believe someone with comparable skills, would earn. I should mention here, that I've seen parents who are happy to pay high rates just because they wanted a certain person and they can afford that person's high rates.

I actually DID indicate that my response was not coming from the DC area, so take your attitude to someone else please.
Also, we did a poll a few months ago and the vast majority of nannies responding were not from DC. You can probably find it if you look through the archives, titled something like "where are you from?"...

Ok, I understand where you are trying to go with that. But if the person YOU responded to had said only "why is it hard for DC nannies to believe people elsewhere earn more", then your answer still doesn't apply to that. We all get that if someone is asking how much to pay a nanny in the DC area, that saying they get paid $30 in LA is not helpful. That is why I made the suggestion that if you really want to stay away from that, don't have those discussions in the General section but in the specific regional section that applies for your area. The question WAS that why do people in the area think that in OTHER discussions about rates in general (country wide), that higher rates like the $30/hr in LA just don't exist? Which is a valid question for those that simply do not believe that these positions exist in other areas.
Maybe some people are having a hard time understanding what a "general" question is and the right places to post other questions in. That was the reason for creating the sub-sections, so that everything WOULDN'T be all just grouped together and unorganized.
