I find that hard to believe, especially if we are talking about one child. That said, the market rules and if there is a high demand for sitters on NYE than nannies should absolutely look after their best interests and make the most they can. We don't usually go out on NYE, but when we have our usual sitter has never raised her rates. According to her, she enjoys our child, the perks we offer, and the attempts we make to set up a wonderful evening for her and my child. She is also invited to bring a friend and we leave her food and a bottle of champagne for a midnight toast (which occurs long after my DD is asleep). We arrange her safe transport to and from our house.
However, if she wanted to take a job that made more money, I would completely support her. This is a job, after all.
