If I was on a trip/flight with my family and some of them decided to upgrade to business with points or cash, I wouldn’t complain.

Much of this is caused by so many social media pages dedicated to mentoring nannies to work for "high income families", where they advertise that working for such families entails flying private, and getting gifts and live the same lifestyle as the host. So the nannies enter an employment in a house that looks nice thinking they're living the life of a celebrity.

I am sure if you work for the .01% you get these perks, but most people who travel multiple times a year and even fly first class are just upper middle class and have saved up to make that travel happen.

Mmm… I feel like you can’t have it both ways: “being part of the family” when it comes to perks like 1st class, but “this is a job” when it comes to work hours/pay. And the reality is that first class travel for work is not that common. Usually even middle management making $250k+ a year only get business class for flights over 8 or 10 hours, and you are expected to be ready to work as soon as you get off the plane.

It’s be a lovely and generous park to fly the nanny in 1st but I don’t think that should be an expectation. I also feel if the nanny is in 1st class, it’d be reasonable to expect her to take care of the kids, whereas in comfort+ she can nap, read, watch movies etc. so there is a trade off there.

Might depend on how they sold her joining on the family trip. Some really sell the bond and like family part of things. Then she ended up feeling the shock of being less than.

If they are paying her for every hour of travel it's fine. Nanny could probably afford the first class upgrade if she wants it.
