Our nanny has endless patience and abundant energy. All three of our kids ADORE her. She is regarded as a beloved member of our family (she was recently widowed and now spends most holidays with us and our extended family). Our nanny is definitely a "young" 72 - she is in incredible shape, takes pilates classes every day, dresses young. She clearly loves our kids and just has a gift with children - every kid loves her, and she remains in close touch with families she cared for before ours. I wouldn't trade her for anyone.
I think this is key. A fit active 72 year old may be able to keep up with young kids more than an out of shape, tired 45 year old. Or even a 27 year old in bad health.
If I were hiring a nanny, I’d be more interested in the overall energy level than age.
