The posts on this forum and thread about pay are often absurdly inflated.

And then of course there are the parent shamers; the trolls who want parents who aren’t willing to pay $30 an hour that they can’t afford a nanny. Ignore.

We pay $22 per hour plus full healthcare and paid vacation to our nanny to care for now 11 month old and four year old. Our nanny started when younger DC was 8 weeks.

She is legal, has a degree, and works about 50 per week (so OT is part of the equation). This is pretty typical in my circle. Most friends and colleagues paying $18 - $25.

We found our nanny through a neighbor but also check out sitter city and care.com.

For her qualifications and two children, she should be getting $30/hr.

Cousin says toddlers nap in the stroller while she takes them on long walks.

Reading comprehension. (Big on reading on our family.)

Walks are for walking, and children need to be out and moving, not strapped in for hours of "long walks" for nanny's convenience. Naps need to be at home.

Why don't these toddler sleep in their beds as god intended? Surely a good nanny would know stroller naps are a bad habit and bad sleep hygiene?

Your cousin is a substandard nanny. Her employer is dumb if she permits this.

This is an old post but I completely agree! La Jolla nanny is terrible. Children shouldn’t be napping in a stroller or carrier unless necessary.

nanny rate for a newborn and 2 year old..... nanny had more than 10 years of experience if that helps! thanks!

After the coronovirus, you aren't going to get anyone.

Why do you say this? No nannies will work? Or they will be in demand?

NP here. My guess is that nannies will be in high demand for newborns and children under two. Daycare doesn’t feel like a safe option with COVID to me and I know I’m not alone in this thinking.

But, honestly, who knows?

Nanny = professional, relevant education, who is raising others' children full-time because parents can't, for a variety of reasons

babysitter = watches kids, probably no relevant education

housekeeper = cleaning duties $$

Please posters, use the correct term

I will take a “babysitter” any day over a “nanny” who thinks she’s raising my children because I happen to work.

She is. You aren't because you are working and rarely see them during waking hours. FYI, farm animals and vegetables are raised and children are reared,!

"Raised by nannies" has never been used in a complimentary sense about anyone's childhood.

Because it meant the parents weren’t there and the poor kid had multiple nannies!

My nanny meant the world to me as a child. My brother used to say he was going to marry her. We stayed close after she retired and both my brother and I gave eulogies at her funeral. I love my parents. My nanny didn’t raise me, she taught me (and loved me).

I think my children’s nanny will be the same.
