No. Parents absolutely need to have a good rapport with the nanny.

Working as a nanny is a very difficult job because you gain a lot of experience and knowledge with each family you work for. Every child is different, and not everything works for each child, but you pick up a lot of great skills that do work. Is it easy to pass these skills onto parents? No. Never. Parents are very easily offended and very sensitive about feeling criticized about their parenting skills. I try to let parents know what I’ve tried with other kids that’s worked great in the past, and try to gently suggest trying that. Sleep schedules are a very difficult subject because parents are quite often tired and burnt out and very defensive about their methods. I hope you reconsider firing her. She sounds like she has a lot of experience and knowledge to bring to your family. If you do fire her, I hope you give her a month’s severance. Two weeks is not enough time to find a new job.

I'd be concerned the nanny was going against your wishes and using rice cereal when you tell her not to.

EVERYONE working with children should know that no two kids are exactly alike, and what works for one may not work for another.

The difference isn’t older nanny vs younger nanny. It’s between undereducated nanny vs educated nanny.

And as a nanny, I would tire quickly of a mother or nanny pushing that nonsense on me. I support OP in letting this nanny go.
