Mom is insisting on keeping the babysitter and Dad is clear he doesn't need her often. This is an issue between mom and nanny and if mom wants to keep her full time she should pay her.

That is absurd if he doesn't need child care.

But he does, he’s just being flaky and canceling *some* of the time.

He needs it some days, not others. He can use the after school care at school for those days. He should not be required to use it daily if he doesn't need it. Caretaker needs a new job.

It's not about whether Op's ex does or does not need a nanny. What it is about is he is leaving the poor woman hanging and not telling her straight up what the situation is. I don't know why the big issue of 'Well, he doesn't need her. He is doing nothing wrong.' is all about

He needs to use his words as another poster says. It isn't hard. It's basic respect.

Its clear this is no longer a stable job so she needs to find another one or if mom wants to keep her, she needs to pay for those hours to reserve her. Families child care arrangements change as kids get older. It really doesn't make sense to keep a nanny at age 8 vs. pay for after school care.
