So how did you get the candidate? How did you beat out everyone else?

I feel your pain. We just matched as well but started this process the end January. I feel as though all my time for the past 2 months has been consumed of looking online at applications and setting up weekend Skype calls. I took about a 2 week break of doing almost nothing. I reached out to 25-30 applicants. Was probably accepted 50% of the time. We actually Skyped with 8 candidates. Tried to match with 2 candidates but ended up being second choice for both and finally matched with a second choice of ours but we were her first choice. OY! We were first time host families last year and it was just a much better process. I was highly aggravated but this years process.

Great news! How long was the total matching process for you?

About 6 weeks of searching the website multiple times a day, reaching about to about 15 candidates and having proper exchanges with 3 of them.

I'm the OP of this thread and just matched. AP seems wonderful but I'm a bit worried we rushed the process because I was just sick of searching. Also, we were the first family she spoke with and I think that helped a lot, as she was also overwhelmed once she started getting a ton of family requests. I was not happy with the process this year but I'm hopeful it was all worth it.

I am frustrated by the never ending Cultural Care Instagram story about a beautiful family in California that make me (overweight and middle aged ) and my smaller house in a dreary mid-western city look terrible by comparison. Why are they selling this dream life?? I swear this makes it harder for regular families to match.

Ha. I would add lack of responsiveness from CCAP staff as well. They’re awful! I specifically emailed the program director to ask what resources or support are available to a family in rematch and I’ve heard...NOTHING. Which I guess answers the question.

I also emailed my thoughts to CCAP and didn't hear back. Which is rich, given that my biggest complaint is lack of response from the APs.

We’ve heard stories of other families on non-anonymous forums (Facebook groups) with incredibly entitled au pairs. No, I’ll pass on the type that will coach my 1 year old into telling mommy and daddy that AP “really needs” an Apple Watch for Christmas...

I don't flash perks because I don't want to attract the wrong type of AP. ESPECIALLY in the connection request or early stages...
