Bottom line:
It is a personal choice.
Some people do not mind, while others may be bothered by it.
To each his own obviously.

Just like abortion, gay marriage & Trump....
There will always be a division of opinion on the matter.

I just happen to find them off-putting + creepy.

I disagree that just because a woman may feel uncomfortable being viewed daily by another man that it is her own fault due to her “choosing” to be a Nanny.

In order for some people to go to work every day, support their families & make a living, they require a Nanny in the home.
Not everyone agrees that infants should thrive in an in-home daycare.

Yes, as technology is playing a larger + larger role in our everyday, it comes as no surprised that we are being filmed the more we venture out in public.

Yet two differences exist for the sake of this issue:
• When being filmed in public, we are likely not the sole focus of the person watching.
It is oftentimes in a group w/other people.

• Women by nature tend to feel a bit more protected of themselves around men, especially men they just met.
Sure....
Call it blatant sexism. Whatever.
But it is just how the genders differ.
Ask any woman.

To be in a private home all day, to be the primary focus of the camera’s owner, to not only be recorded on video....but also on audio is truly over the top.

How does the woman know just how long the man may be watching her?
Perhaps longer than he is telling his wife.
How can she be 1000% positive her being recorded isn’t being seen by other people who are analyzing the footage as well?
And just what if (?) there is not a camera in the bathroom, but audio??!

No one can expect instant trust w/a new family either.
Mutual trust goes both ways here.

Why is the Nanny presumed guilty until she can be proved to the family that she is trustworthy?
Shouldn’t the Nanny also have time to trust the family initially as well??!

Sure families will say that they rarely look at the cameras, that they are primarily to peek at the kids while at work, that they are used primarily if an intruder enters.

These are all just B.S. excuses to manipulate the Nanny to comply w/being filmed all day.
Because after all,
What evil monster would ever want to deny a parent the ability to check in w/their child every day????

You just met him, barely know him yet are expected to give your consent for him to watch & listen to you anytime he wants to.
This is just sick.

Ask the Mom if she could just have access to the footage.
Let the Mom know your concerns and I am sure she will understand completely.

No one would feel comfortable w/a stranger Male having video/sound access to a brand new Woman in the house.

Especially today w/the current #metoo movement going on.
It’s best for the man to not be involved in watching a stranger who is Female.
Err on the side of caution.
ALWAYS!!

Plus these cameras get hacked just like computers and it could be some creepy, pedophile watching the Nanny from across the street.

Security is the biggest issue in not setting up home cameras.

This is weirdly sexist reasoning, the same kind used in stricter middle eastern countries to justify why women need to be covered up in public, not allowed to work outside the home, escorted by a male guardian, etc. because men are perverted and not to be trusted, and it would be sick if a woman had to touch a strange man (jostled in public transport, shaking hands on a business meeting)

What would be sick is if your landlord wanted to record you for “security purposes”... that is YOUR HOME.
What is not sick if is your employer wants to record you at work... it may be A HOME but not YOUR HOME. What are you doing at work with a young child that is so private it would be sick to watch, besides the bathroom (where I agree no cameras should be allowed in any workplace)?

Families who CHOOSE to have a nanny give up quite a bit of privacy... a nanny can pick up a lot about the family’s personal matters just from overhearing and seeing things around the house. She probably knows much more than the neighbors and possibly even more than grandparents about the family’s financial and medical situation, family planning, and so on.

A person who CHOOSES to work in someone else’s house has to give up some privacy as well.

The above poster is 100% correct. There needs to be limits in the written contract how the video footage can be used on social media.

12.39 (again). My experience says that MBs are far more likely to HAVE a social media account, much less use it. And having worked for single dads before? A camera watching me take care of his kids is NOT my main concern with any DB.

You are paranoid, PP. It is 2018 - you are being filmed pretty much every place you go. And if the father is a creep, you have bigger issues than him seeing you play peek-a-boo with his kid and making strained prunes!

I find it akin to having one’s boss stand over their shoulders the entire day w/a clipboard.

It is micromanagement at its worst.

The people that are responding that cameras are okay are likely parents who employ a Nanny.

The logic is very clear here.
No mistake or interpretation.

If you do not 100% trust your child’s caregiver, then do not have children unless you can afford to stay home w/them!!

It’s not rocket science.

Honestly, I have zero issue about being filmed all day long. I truly don't. It has nothing to do with trusting me - it has to do with my employers wanting to see their little girl from time to time during the course of the day. It is not rocket science, PP - it is simply the way of the world now.

I’m 11.39. I’m definitely a nanny, thank you

This.

Even our dogwalker was dishonest with us and did not walk the dog, but would send us texts reporting on their “walk.” Cameras are there to hold you accountable — and no we do not watch them all day.

We were able to watch our Housekeeper show up late, leave early and sit on the couch watching TV!!

How did she clean your house? Twitch her nose?

It wasn’t clean, but the money was gone each time!
Only lasted a few weeks and we fired her.

And she knew about the cameras? Seems fairly stupid, unless the idea was to sit around until she got fired.
