you are actually very lucky to have fallen into this experience because parents of kids with disabilities know good care is hard to find so they are willing to pay a lot for quality. I fell into this line of work 10 years ago, and back then they paid me $18 an hour and hat wasn’t in the DC area (so much lower cost of living). Now I exclusively care for children with disabilities and charge between 30-35, but these parents know that they are getting the very best. Also, in many case she Medicare will reimburse the parents $12 an hour for Care, and hen they add money out of their own pockets on top of that because no one qualified will do it for $12.

For those of you saying that she is t qualified to do tune changes etc.-that is nonsense. Anyone can do a tube change, when the baby turns 6 she will start doing it for herself.

Learn everything you can in this position, and yes, ask for a raise. They may need to work with a social worker to figure out what Care/compensation they qualify for.

By the way, in-home health caregivers (like those provided by insurance companies for people who have strokes and with other health needs) usually makes substantially *less* than nannies. Their agencies bill them out at high rates, but they actually get paid very little.

It's understandable for you to ask, OP. Just do it gently. And know that I think that your employers will do whatever they can to keep you, but they are also dealing with a lot of medical bills and time off work so that there are probably limits also to what they can do.
