I think this is the real reason. Once upon a time, a single woman would have liked the protective and respectable nature of a household. Now, there's no lack-of-respectability factor to living on your own.

Every adult you know does this? Then you know a lot of people with terrible work integrity. Use all of your vacation, but don't put your employers in a bind just because you feel like blowing off work -- schedule time off in advance.

Me again, I grew up with a live in nanny. She is a nun now. Wonderful lady!
