21:04 please explain? How am I being antagonizing? I am kind to her, pay her fair and respect her and her time. 21 is hardly a kid. Please explain?

Ok we get it. It's a horrible human being, a very young one at that, who worked reliably for you for a year, and for your friend for half a year before that. She had troubles, or got a better offer or something came up. You didn't like the way she, a 21 year old kid, handled it and now you're demonizing her. Got it. Pretty sure the problem here is you. If you treat her the way you've been antagonizing on here, then it's no wonder she quit without notice.

Do people really not pay cash and take taxes out for a babysitter who works 4 hours a week for you? Wow. Guess I'm old school but cash is king.

She was a nanny for a friend of mine for 6 months. They loved her. She was looking for extra money so we hired her for a regular once a week gig. It's easy... She comes after 7:30 and my child is asleep so we pay her to sit on our sofa and watch tv. We also provide her Vace pizza or chipotle or whatever she would like for dinner. We pay her $15 cash an hour. Dream job if you are a 21 year old looking for extra money. She told me how great we are abd that she relies on the extra money. We always come home on time and are very kind to her.

Ok, so where'd you find her, OP? Craigslist or careless?

Zero refs.
Zero taxes.
Zero training.
And no doubt very cheap.
Who said you get what you pay for?

Some parents are really nuts, but this takes the cake.
IF it's true... which I still doubt.

Also I think that what happened warrants a phone call not a text. It shows a lack of responsibility. If she called me today and apologized and told me what happened maybe I'd be more sympathetic.

So DCUM parents you mean to tell me you would let this girl babysit for your kids after pulling this crap? Numbers are stored in the iCloud. She's 21, she knows how to use the cloud. We even talked about it a few weeks ago when I was having a phone issue and she helped me get contacts out of the cloud. If her phone was broken how could the police officer trace it and see that it was on and moving?

If you were on your way to work, got a flat tire and your phone broke you mean to tell me it would take you 2 days to contact work to tell them you had a flat? Sorry. That's just crazy if you ask me. And to not even call but send a crappy text. I feel that her story is fabricated and also because the police officer that traced her phone that night said it was on and moving.

I'm not texting her back just letting it go. I don't think it's a bad idea to get a photo of the drivers license of someone watching my kid.
Does she have your phone number memorized? I don't have ANY phone number memorized and would be screwed until my phone was fixed if I needed to contact someone who wasn't a google or facebook contact. If it's true her phone was broken it's 100% plausible she couldn't reach you until her phone was fixed because her contacts are stored in ... wait for it ... her broken phone.

Go get a random strangers phone, or even a friends phone, and then try to call your boss.

OK if her text is truthful, then I don't see what the problem is. Would you be able to call or text something w/o a phone? I wouldn't. Should she have stopped by your house to tell you in person? Sure. But that's the only thing wrong here, assuming her message is truthful. Not sure why a popped tire and shattered phone from someone who has always been reliable is reason to 1) question her integrity now and 2) question the integrity of all future sitters. You seem to be over reacting.

Take what she said at face value, tell her you're glad she's ok, and if you really can't trust someone who has the audacity to have a flat tire and break their phone in the process of fixing the flat tire, then move on and find someone else who don't drive or own a phone so you can avoid those issues.

I called the police officer and no one is in the office. Basically my car tire had popped on my way to your home and my phone shattered while I was trying to fix it. I just got my phone fixed this morning. Sorry I haven't been able to call you things have been so hectic.

I am just shocked that she did this. Really makes me question our babysitters and from now on, I will make sure to get a copy of their drivers license and take a photo of their car/ license plate if they drive to us.

Well DCUM moms, you were right. She totally flaked. My husband says not to respond to her text and I tend to agree but man do I have words for her. Reply or not reply? I sure would love to put her name on here and make sure no one calls her to babysit.

Please don't write any "I told you so" messages. I get it.

It is always like this ... good MB gets bad sitter/nanny. Good nanny/sitters always gets bad family.

Good luck with your next babysitter OP.

Anonymous wrote:lol op please shut up. These people are so gullible for responding with serious replies. Why would police work with an employer of an occasional babysitter in an instance like this just because she didn't show for a job? You would have to be a relative and have waited 24 hours.

Seriously, are people this stupid? Apparently so...
