$18/hr is above market rates for DC for a single child and only nanny duties. If you wanted $21/hr, you would have to be offering more to be worth the top of the rate. Light housekeeping, grocery shopping or light errands. Maybe easy family meal prep for the evening. If you aren't willing and able to do these extras, consider doing a nanny share, where you could probably easy make that rate.

For 1 child, $18 is reasonable to start. If you want more, you may be able to find it, but it's probably going to take awhile.
