BTDT. I was never paid for my last week with a position, and now I don't leave until I have cash in hand, or I verify with the bank that the money has been transferred.

OP here, yes, on Wednesday night I emailed them (4th time) and told them I was confused as to why I hadn't heard anything after nearly 2 1/2 weeks, and finally got a text saying they just got back from vacation and the check was in the mail.
They told me they would only be gone a week, but how was I supposed to know that after all this time, with all the damn silence? The correct thing would have been to write me a check then and there and be done with it.
Once the check comes, if it ever does, I'm totally done with them.

You are required to pay for the hours actually worked. If she worked from 8 am to 4 pm, then got hurt on your property while fulfilling her job requirements, technically you are liable for her injury, and she would have a case for payment of all hours she was supposed to work in addition to medical bills. Given that she's only asking for payment of hours worked, you are a piece of work.

This +1000

And if the family KNEW this and is still acting like idiots, they are asking for a Workers' Comp claim.
