Inappropriate. Period.

(1) They probably don't know that you can hear them. How would they?

(2) It actually CAN be quite difficult for 2 working people with young children to find enough time and energy to have sex. In the morning while you're watching their child is probably one of the ways they stay connected.

Would it be better for all if they were more discreet? Of course. But can you possibly see this as a way that you're helping to strengthen their family unit? Put on some music, turn on the oven hood.

Sex is part of what most loving couples do. Maybe advise them to close the door or something but getting offended is way over the top. Also -- your employers are paying you for childcare.

Their presence in the house is immaterial if they are not interacting with you -- what if they both worked at home? I had one nanny that would get huffy if my DW would take a sick day.

There's a difference between MB staying home sick (presumably avoiding the kid(s) to limit germs), and MB and DB having sex in the shower after the nanny gets there. There are plenty of hours in the day for them to do that, it's not necessary to have it during the nanny's work hours.

As a live-in nanny, I set clear boundaries. One line of the contract reads that I agree to not invite anyone over to the house, and in return, MB and DB agree to keep their sex life behind closed doors during reasonable hours (when I can be away from them and not listening). I've never had a boss who thought that was unreasonable.
