You keep it in your back pocket, which makes it vulnerable to breaking every time you sit. Second, you apparently don't have an adequate case for it. As PPs have pointed out, you can get an otter box cheaply and that is the best protection for your expensive phone. Third, you let your charge fool around near your phone three times without addressing his behavior. Not only is this bad nannying, you should have moved your phone to a safer location the first time he fooled around to close to it.
You were irresponsible, OP, and should pay for your phone and take better care of it. You should also do a better job as a nanny when your charges misbehave.

Why so she can break that one too and then have her nf made at her.,
What does "made at her" mean?
It should read mad at her.
Op we are not all nuts. You should keep your phone secure. Having it on a table clearly is not safe.
Then I guess glasses of liquids shouldn't be on the table? Or flower vases? Or Silverware? Or heck maybe even the food? Yes let's keep everything off of a table. I mean what I thinking? I shouldn't let them use their iPads at the table only the floor because it could drop! evenAnd
And when I'm texting back and forth with my MB I should keep the phone in the backpack and respond to her about our whereabouts and appts telepathically. You're absolutely correct. and you are very much sane. I mean we should all be prepared for kids to reach across tables and grab our belongings and play rough.
Yes you are nuts. I take care or kids, not an infant or toddler. That would be very different
I would never put my glasses on a table at a park with concrete underneath. I also prefer vases not to be on tables because accidents happen. liquids and silverware are probably fine. Although a flying fork could put an eye out. I also would never allow a child to use an ipad at a table with concrete underneath. OP you were at a park. You should also rethink this backpack thing. Also don't get me started on the coffee you were drinking but I don't want to go there I'm trying to not be mean.

Yes, a flying fork could "put an eye out" (hahaha), and yes, a phone or ipad or pair of glasses or literally ANYTHING could fall off of a table and break. It was an accident and in no way indicates anything about OP's abilities as a nanny.
My the bubbles you ladies must live in with your flip phones...

My nanny broke her phone three times in the last year (not because of my kids' actions, just because of type of flooring we have and only 1 time out of 3 on the job), and after first time I asked her and she said she'll get the cover "tomorrow"... Then it was that she was "looking for the perfect one", and I suggested amazon... I lost count how many times our phones or IPad were dropped, and I had to replace the cover once, but it was just the cover... Why not buy the toughest covers if you work around kids?
In OP's situation I would offer to pay, but I would request cover for subsequent phones.
Because the "toughest covers" cost $80/90 and not all of us have the luxury of affording that. Seriously, were all of you MB's born with a silver spoon in your mouth?
