Subject: Nanny asked for three days of for dental work
It really depends on what the extraction includes. I had mine removed in high school -- surgery, as they were impacted and not yet broken through the gums. I was out for about a week and had swelling for nearly a month (I have the chipmunk school photos in my yearbook to prove it).
As others noted, it would have been ideal for her to have mentioned this from the start if it was scheduled or to have waited or done it earlier. But it is POSSIBLE she just wants to make sure she has enough recovery time to come back and be a good nanny again, without being in pain or sitting around feeling bad. Give her the benefit of the doubt and see how it all plays out.

Maybe because these things can't always be scheduled around what your employer needs. As another poster said, some won't pull teeth on a Friday because they want the office open in case of problems.
OP, give her the days. She's trying not to inconvenience you any more than she has to.

Your nanny is asking for 3 days? Of course you give it to her! What do *you* do when you are sick from your job?
I was out for 7 days after my surgery! Like many of you I thought 2 days was enough and went back to work. Bad idea! I nearly passed out on the job. Plus, taking percoset and vicodin really made me loopy. You would not want someone on pain killers watching your child. Just give her the time off.

How dare an hourly employee think she has a God-given right, as well as a Constitutional right. to take care of her own health and well being, is more important than taking care of your child.
As I recall, my wisdom teeth problem manifested very quickly and dentist advised me not to wait but have extractions done immediately.
The woman is in pain and you think she should work until 2 pm so OP isn't inconvenienced? You are an idiot. I would not want, nor allow, someone in excruciating pain and taking pain killers to care for my children.
I hope the nanny reads this and finds a new job with somsomeone who values her as a fellow humam being,
