The vitriol you all express is horrible.

First, I have read no vitriol at all on this thread.

Second, if you can work from home and watch your children one day a week why do you have a nanny for that day?

+1 Seriously, PP, if you have an easy enough job to watch your children from the dining room table, why do you need a nanny?

Poster needs to use more words.

OP sounded stunningly mature and responsible to me - her concern was with the children in her care.

I'm a mother who has to echo the other responses to your post - I don't think you know what the word "vitriol" means - everyone so far has expressed only concern for the kids. And if I had a job where I could work and watch my children play, I wouldn't need a nanny. What kind of work do you do, PP?

As a nanny I just hate what it does to my charges. Yay momys home but I can't play with her, she won't talk to me, we can't have our normal fun. Nanny always tells me to be quit because mommy is working. I can have a play date at my house or sing songs. It's really awful.

What kind of job do you have that you don't need to concentrate on your work?

MB here and the nannies who have posted so far have all expressed only concern about the children (needing to be quiet, thrown off their routine, torn thinking nanny is leaving). I don't know where you see "vitriol".

You sound like a self-absorbed tween. Now that you're a mommy, it's time to act grown-up and be concerned about what's best for your child.

Here's a hint: CONSISTANCY

If a parent suddenly announced they were going start staying home on a regular basis, I'd expect a contract renegotiation, or I'd be leaving.

I'll have one of those miserable days tomorrow. MB is off and I'm not. I offered to go without pay to have the day off and let MB spend time with her baby alone tomorrow but MB wants me there. The poor little will be completely thrown off by both nanny and mommy being there.

Two days a MONTH not two days a week. BIG difference.

Anonymous wrote:OP HERE Yes, it was as difficult a day as I'd feared! Everything was off-kilter and my charge was cranky all day. I am so happy I have the day off today!

And for the record, I personally cannot stand dishes in the sink either at my work or my home. Just a personal pet-peeve. I'm sure my MB would tell me to put her dishes aside but I can't do it. This is not her fault at all but obviously not an issue when she is at work.

To the foreign nanny - my employers do not have a television and I carry only an inexpensive phone that only the parents have the number to when I'm working. I am also on nanny cam all day/every day so it certainly isn't a matter of feeling checked up on when MB is home.

MB just stated working form home two days a month in October. I would not have accepted this job had I known this was even a possibility. Now I am entrenched in this job and love my charge. I will have a conversation with her about ground rules at some point as the days of her working from home are truly miserable.

Thanks for the responses, Nannies!

I'm glad to hear they have nanny cams because it does sound like you do best when someone is checking up on you. You don't seem to be able to handle small changes very well.

Only a very bad mother would think that the disruption of their child's routine is a small change.
