I think it depends on the type of damage.
1. in my case, yes probably, seeing as their child is old enough to know better. And they know their kid is destructive.
2. If the same kid puked on my bag and ruined it, I would not expect a new one, seeing as puke is a (generally) uncontrollable scenario.
Wow. Unbelievable. Was this nine year old a "special needs" child?
Did he ever physically attack you?

You are a nanny with a toddler. You don't bring your designer bag to work. Get a cheap one for work. And, it was obviously not well made. I would not ask or expect someone else to pay for that.
Um, it was a very well made bag. Charge was 9 years old and I was not expecting him rip the bag apart by jumping onto me and catching my bag. He fell to the ground and took the bottom of the purse with him. Not sure why you assume it was a toddler. Kinda judgy....

The kid's bad behavior is what caused the bag to break, I would absolutely expect the parents to replace it in this case. You did nothing irresponsible to cause it, and he was old enough to now better.
OP's situation is different, she brought an expensive toy to work and placed it in a silly place where it would easily fall. Of course the kids were jumping around in their own playroom, they did nothing wrong.

Anonymous wrote:MB here. I'm sorry, OP, but I think this was your unfortunate mistake and you should pay for the repair.

This is not the same thing. That was your charges fault and MB should have paid, although I wouldn't bring my designer bag to work necessarily. In OPs case it was her fault much more than charges.
