If he has been a great boss and you have an established history of him being responsible then I think having some understanding of the fact that his spouse walking out on the family threw his family into turmoil doesn't mean you are being taken advantage of. He may truly be somewhat traumatized and off his game as he tries to readjust.

That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't look for another job but it doesn't automatically mean he is a horrible person.

Op here.

I just started the position. He originally said that he would pay every 2 weeks. Then my first paycheck didn't come till 6 weeks after I started.

Wow. That's really incredible. What's his job?

I'd even try taking a job outside the nanny field just until you find something new. Do lots of babysitting on the side

OP, why five weeks?

Normally I would be on board with everyone else ("What are you still doing there???!!"); but a few questions:

Do you like him? Is he nice? Is he otherwise a good employer?
What is your hourly wage, and is it fair for that area/# of kids/your duties?

He can only pay every five weeks?? I hope one of your interviews tomorrow works out! Then tell him your bills have to be paid more than every five weeks.

Do whatever you want. You're not listening to anybody's advice anyway.

How am I not listening? I have been looking for a new job this whole time the DB was stringing me along. I think people on here think I can just waltz into a new position. Well its harder than that. So, in the meantime, I stayed in a crappy position. I am still looking for a job and I have 2 interviews tomorrow.

I hope you find a great position soon, OP.

You should look for a job. The only reason he'd be able to give you a paycheck every five weeks is that he is not good at budgeting.
