They did have notice that if they continued to forget my check I wouldn't be able to continue with them. I'm a nanny for children not adults I'm not going to baby them

If you repeatedly make BIG mistakes at your job, yes you should get fired. "Forgetting" to pay an employee is a huge "mistake" and they did it multiple times. They deserve to be "fired" with no notice.

There are consequences to being a bad boss, just like there are for being a bad employee. They didn't fulfill their commitment to you multiple times, and you don't owe them anything, OP. glad to hear you're moving on!

Op here update.

I was still on the fence today when I went into work and knew the right thing would be finish my commitment and only wanted to quit without notice because I was pissed. Well I'm even more pissed than I was. He again "forgot" my check said he was in hurry and asked if he could write it Monday. He kept trying to put it off till monad and I told him no I can't wait any longer. So he finally wrote the check. So I'm telling mb after the check clears by email that today was my last day and why especially since he didn't want to pay me today.

Why does this family deserve any respect from this nanny? What comes around goes around and this family needs to get a taste of their own medicine for a change.

How do I sound like I don't know what I'm doing? Is it because the one week I forgot it was a short week?

I have been a full time nanny for 14 years, have the experience and references to back it up. I only took this job to help the family out while they find someone but if they aren't even looking that's not my problem.

I have a full time job starting in January and baby sit often for past families. This job was only as a favor and also so I wasn't just sitting around till January plus I was happy I wouldn't have to touch my savings but I have to anyways because they don't pay on time. I will not need them as a reference, never intended to use them even if we ended on good terms. Plus they live 45 minutes from me so I will not run into them at the grocery store or at the park as I never apply to jobs where they live

OP they're going to be looking out for themselves so def grab your last check and bounce. This isn't a REAL employment situation so they can prob get away with not paying you, and they will so look out after yourself and bounce as soon as you get your money.

OP these employers clearly don't know what they're doing as employers, and you are paying the price for their learning curve.

You also don't sound like you know what you're doing as an employee.

You're probably all well-meaning people who don't know how to behave professionally yet in this setting.

You should do what feels right to you ethically, and what you feel comfortable with in the long run. You have to answer only to yourself really. A year from now what will you wish you had done if you run into this family in the grocery store or at a playground, etc... Use that as your test.

Since she hasn't done her part in looking ( we agreed if she found someone sooner than I was supposed to be finished then I would be done then which I'm fine with) that they aren't serious about me leaving at Xmas and will play a guilt trip that they have nobody else to help them.


I can fault them for one of these three times. But the other two, just misunderstandings. One of them was a short week and you wanted to be paid before the pay period ended. And the grandma situation, I probably would have forgotten to pay you as well if I weren't home.

Give them notice, and stay for that time. But MB has to come to terms with you leaving. You could look at it like this, their reluctance in looking for someone shows that they like what you have been doing.
