Yep. And I suspect that the wages he listed that were less than minimum wage are going to minors, who you can apparently pay as little as $4.25/hr for the first 90 days of employment.

I am a new poster OP if you are still here.
1) yes your wife needs to do this. Many will find it odd/suspicious that a man is doing the interviewing and searching since it is mug less common.
2) you are required to pay minimum wage. This is not a suggestion - it is the law.
3) have you gone to Walmart? That is the quality of the person you want watching your kids? You are right that some people take min wage jobs. I assure you that 9 times out of 10 they are not people that should be left with young kids for even half a day. You see not hiring a pet sitter for crying out loud.

OP, it seems that the response you are getting is consistent with the feedback you are getting here.

The job you are offering is not attractive for a variety of reasons, is not competitive in the marketplace, and therefore is not attracting any interest or qualified candidates.

You may disagree, or argue about the rate, but the total lack of response/interest you are getting is consistent with what we are all saying. The pay is way too low, the hours are too few, and your understanding of the nature of the job and what is required is of concern.

I cannot even wish you luck finding someone to take this job. I think you will need to find other solutions, or pay more money. That is all.

I think it’s time for me to no longer attend this conversation. I certainly don’t want to cause troubles or stir things up. I would like to thank especially those people who made appropriate comments.

I did some researches about salaries. Below are some salaries from glassdoor.com. You see that large companies pay also below minimum salary. I think that caring babies is more interesting job than a cashier and people would choose the former, if salary were same.

There is no way that in YOUR AREA ie WHERE YOU LIVE that someone makes under the minimum wage for your area. AGAIN THAT IS ILLEGAL!
