OP, to be honest I am a nanny and I think its fair to say that you do not need to give her time off paid. It is very unfortunate for the deaths especially considering the closeness in time frame however, when my grandfather who raised me passed a couple years back I didn't request any time off at all. We had just gotten back from winter vacation and I felt awful for asking for time off let alone paid time off. As for me I did live in the same city but even if I didn't there is no way I would expect time off paid.

You have been more than generous and it may seem a little late . O put your foot down but its never too late. Maybe you need to sit your nanny down and explain to her what you have explained to us.

The nanny may know perfectly well she'll need to use PTO here; in this case I agree wholeheartedly with the PP who told the OP to start treating her nanny like an adult who knows her work agreement. I disagree with any of the PPs who think it's incumbent on the MB to give additional PTO just because it's nice.
