You're pita woman, right? You consistantly don't read very well.

You consistently simplify situations and can't spell.

"Expect" is your key word. Look it up, Einstein.

I agree with PP -- you have absolutely no clue what a shutdown is. This could last 3 days. It could last a full year. No.One.Knows.

Who was it that said,
"Always be looking for your next job."
Sad, but true.

If I were the OP's nanny, I would have approached her myself and asked what her plans were if the shutdown happens. And I'd get my ducks in a row ASAP in terms of finding new employment be it temporary or permanent. The OP's financial standing is irrelevant as she can choose to spend her money however she wants. She has to look out for her family; as a nanny you should be aware of current events and how they might affect your employer's jobs and look out for yourself. After all, we're all grown-ups here, right?

What makes you think that?

How long do you expect this to last? A few days to a week, two weeks max? Your emergency fund should cover ALL expenses for a couple of months. If paying your nanny for a week out of the emergency fund will break you, I agree with the PP you either cant afford her, are a poor financial planner, or you dont understand the difference between "cant" and "dont want" to pay the nanny. How dumb are you going to feel when your nanny finds a new job in the week you're at home, then you are expected back at work (perhaps working OT to make up for lost time) and you have no childcare. If my employers told me tomorrow they wouldn't be paying me during the shutdown, I'm sorry, but I'd move on and not look back.
