I agree. It's the obvious truth most people here don't want to admit.

Why would you need to learn to read English first? Answer- you wouldn't. Children pick up as many languages as you expose them too at the same time.

If you and your husband are your child's primary caregivers, that's great.

19:35 here -- we are not. We both work 40+ hour a week jobs. And guess what -- our 20 month old kid is leaps and bounds ahead of his peers in his English vocabulary and he's pretty decent with Spanish too. I don't think his English has been harmed by this arrangement one bit.

I'm sorry but why even have a kid if you're not going to fucking raise it?

Just to fucking piss you off.

Do you even know how to have a good day, or has it been to long ago to remember?

I'm having a good day just typing this. Thanks for caring.

If your idea of a good day is "fucking pissing" people off on this board, I pity you and your real life targets. Enjoy your day!

I feel nothing for you.

And yes, you should feel pity for my real-life targets.

I didn't. I hired a perfect Spanish speaker to teach my children Spanish. I am a perfect English speaker and I teach them English.

Our nanny speaks ONLY Spanish to my children. I speak Spanish or English to them. My husband only speaks English. They are both boys and have no problem switching between the two languages. I believe that there was a slight delay in the initial onset of speaking but that is a documented effect of dual language families and it was quickly overcome and now they are both bi-lingual and with or beyond their peers. I have a huge advantage in my job being bi-lingual and am very happy that both my children will as well.

We don't speak English to our child at all, and he's more verbal than his monolingual peers, in all three languages of his life.

Once upon a time, people used to think that most cancers were beyond our control/influence. That was in the dark ages.

The rise in children being identified with speech delays is simply an outcome of more services, education, and research on early speech. My husband did not speak until he was 4. Back then he was just considered a late talker. DH is brilliant, PHd and very successful in his field. It was pretty common for kids in his family to speak late. DS was not speaking at 18 months-2 years so we did do therapy. He made some regular progress with therapy and all of sudden starting talking in full sentences at age 3.

ESL parents or caregivers have nothing to do with speech delays.

So it's plain bad luck??

Have you even looked into speech issues and what the causes are? Yes, with many children,it is what it is. I also agree with PP who mentioned services are more available now. Early intervention is key when identifying a lot of issues with young children. Not only speech, but many others as well.

How can you even try to call yourself a nanny if you do not know any of this and just choose to make crap up?

You are clearly in denial. It's quite common among absentee parents. Sad.

She is raising her children, you are an idiot. You DO NOT have to be a FTM to raise your kids well! Good luck living in the real world when you grow up.

~Nanny

Outsourcing your childcare to that degree isn't the same as raising your kids.

To what degree? A 40 hour work week is normal (8 hour days) Most nannies work 12 + hours.
