She picked your kids up from school and provided an adult presence in your house to make sure your kids didn't burn the house down. It might not be her usual level of job performance, but everyone has off days in which they do less than usual due to illness. What is so darn important in your house that you can't cut her some slack on a day she was vomiting but still managed to make it to your house to do you a favor? Your kids are old enough to look after themselves while their nanny lays low while remaining available.
I really hope she reads this board and recognizes you b/c you don't deserve her. She sure as heck deserves a more understanding employer.
+1000 This. You don't want to pay her the full amount because all she did was lay around? That's because she came in to work with a vomiting illness because you are too irresponsible to figure out your own back-up childcare. After reading your posts I am so grateful for my employers who don't nickel and dime me like you're doing to your nanny. You sound absolutely AWFUL.
I agree, you do sound awful! When I was getting over being sick, and by sick I mean a throat infection that I was already on antibiotics for 4-5 days for, my MB with a 6 and 9 yr old was telling me I could leave early (and still be paid my normal amount) if I wasn't feeling up to it. As I was mostly better, just feeling slightly tired still from fighting the infection, I opted to stay (since I was not infectious and could still help out with the kids). That 1 - you made her come in while very sick, and 2 - that you wanted to pay LESS because she wasn't up to par, that makes you look bad! You are a disgrace to the human race.
+1

Anonymous wrote:OP, allow me to answer the next few questions you'll be posting: (1) no, you should not reduce your nanny's pay because you caught the stomach virus she gave you when you made her come in to look after kids who are old enough to have hung out with a friend or stayed by themselves for a while - the world is round, and you deserve it; (2) no, you cannot make work her for free to clean the guest bedroom she spent the day in; and (3) no, you should not take it out of her pay if you had to stay home sick and lost one of your precious days off.
I'm an MB, and I assure you, if you are real, you are insufferable.
