I know this is an old post, I haven't been on here in a while so scrolling through everything I've missed.
OP, regardless if this is real or not, NOT telling the parents right away and asking the child to lie is the wrong thing to do!
When I'm at the park with my charges I don't let them out of my sight! I follow them around the park, play with them, swing with them etc.
The last time I was at the park with my 3 and 5 year old charges the 5 year old got out of my sight for less than a minute and I freaked out when I called her name several times and she didn't answer right away. She had been just on the other side of the big play equipment. I always tell my charges too that they need to stay where they can see me.
If something ever happened where I lost my charge, or my charge got away from me for as long as 30 minutes I would tell my employer right away! I would probably even be on the phone with them right as I was searching for their child.

I don't believe you. No mother would understand why you asked the child to lie in this type of situation! The situation itself, I can see her being nice about that and saying it happens sometimes (especially if you didn't say it was for a full 30 minutes), but frankly, if you told me that you did that and you also mentioned that you then asked my child to lie about it to me, you would be fired on the spot for trying to hide it and asking that of my child.
