I am a nanny to a one year old. MB prefers that I don't drive the child around and since he is still young, he doesn't have preschool. I would love to do some classes and activities with him outside of the home but it just isn't an option right now.

When I first started working they lived in a large community of townhomes. Since there were so many families in the community I easily found a playmate for him that was the same age. My nanny family has recently moved and I have had a really hard time finding more playmates for him. We don't really do anything away from the house so it's hard to find playmates.

I am one of the PPs who said that the idea was too self-serving (in my opinion) and focuses too much on the nannies and not enough on the charges.

Safety issues aside, I would love a place online where I could go and find playmates for my charge. I would make my choice to best fit him, not because the mother or nanny was the same age as me with similar interests. When I am at work he is my number one priority and I can't imagine basing my choice in playmates for him based on my own selfish desires.

I don't see how you can provide security without charging a fee. And there is no way I'm paying a monthly fee to essentially online date...for a friend.

Why is it so difficult to find people to talk to? When I go to the various parks, playgrounds, classes, etc., there are always other people there. Usually with charges the same age(s) as mine because we're on similar schedules. We chat sometimes. Or not. If I really click with a mom or nanny i see regularly, we exchange numbers and take it from there.

Yes if there were great security measures I would love this idea. Do you have any thoughts? My only idea is to take out the child description all together. There must be another.way to find someone with similar interests without putting in the age, location, and interests of a.minor. for me, that is the biggest security risk
Call it paranoia, but I'd be worried a pedophile would be looking for a particular age group and sex and.then.would have material to lure the child away. The issue with background checks is that someone has to pay for it

OP here. It's great that your DDs has. a current circle of friends from which playdates can be easily arranged, but not all nannies and parents are as fortunate. Some neighborhoods, areas, etc. do not have many child focused centers, activities, and events where parents and nannies can meet up with each other to make such arrangements. And some individuals who attend these centers/activities may simply have no interest in being social (for w/e reason).

When children begin to attend school, it's easier to find playmates for them. But when they're babies, too young for school, or simply do not yet attend, it can be much more difficult. Hence, the concept of this proposed site is to connect nannies and SAHPs with other nannies and SAHPs who wish to form social interactions for their children/charges and themselves because they have difficulty finding it elsewhere, or they want to broaden their scope outside of what resources they may have.

As many PPs have mentioned, safety is the biggest issue with this idea, and what prompts them to oppose it. My goal is to feel out the best way to address this issue using comments from this forum and other sources.

In short, if the site provided excellent security to protect all parties involved, especially the children, than would the concept interest you? Does it show potential?

Terrible, creepy idea. I wouldn't hire a nanny that lacked the skills necessary to arrange play dates from our DDs current circle of friends.

The safety issues really are enormous.

I am an MB and would love this. there are very few nannies near me so playdates are tough to arrange. It would be great to have this as an option.

Well, thanks for your input. I'll start thinking about ways in which the proposed site can achieve the utmost security for all parties involved.

OP, I understand you just came up with it last night, but I don't think you are going to get the correct level of interest because it is still such a loose idea. It seems posters main hang up is the security issue, which is why I think you should look into how you would go about it, and then repost. I think you will see a change in interest. I am interested in the overall concept of it (I'm a FTM and none of our friends have kids yet) but I'm turned off by the fact that you haven't really even thought about it.

OP here. I pretty much came up with this idea on a whim while considering how nice it would be if I had some nanny friends around my age with charges around the age of mine so that we could enjoy ourselves while our charges enjoyed themselves as well. Since it "came to me" last night, I haven't given solid thought to the safety aspects of it or how it can actually come together effectively. So I don't really have any concrete plans to promote this proposed site and try to find developers as of yet. I'm simply trying to gauge if a fair amount of people would be interested in it. I understand that safety is the greatest concern of both parents and nannies alike, and, while I myself have no solid ideas on how something like this could be sufficiently addressed, I'm hoping others might. In short, I'm simply trying to feel out this idea right now and go from there. Thanks for your comment!
