To respond to the real question, and not other peoples fear/hate of 'illegals', unless you want to run for president or think you may be tapped for Sec. of State one day, it is really not that huge of the deal. The nanny we are lining up is 'legal' but honestly, it was not a deal breaker for me.
Many people hire 'legal' and then pay under the table. It is all a gray area. The one I feel for is your nanny- who likely has to take less wages and harder working conditions because her employers know they can walk all over her.
Stop the hate guys.
Hate has nothing to do with following the law. There is no gray area. It is illegal.
I know that this board now has nannies from all over the place, but it isn't true that only the President and Secretary of State need to worry about hiring an illegal caregiver. Here in DC, especially (although this is true in other places as well), many many jobs require a clearance of some kind, and these things always catch this kind of illegal activity. No one I know in DC would dream of hiring an illegal caregiver or to pay under the table. It isn't done because, again, it is illegal.
