Anonymous wrote:OP here: I talked to the family today and I told them that unfortunately, I wasn't willing to get the flu shot and they heard me out and completely understood where I was coming from. Both twins just got theirs and we agreed that if I felt like I was coming down with something, that I let them know and we would mutually decide if I should come in or not. They told me that they are willing to work around all of this because of how comfortable the twins are with me and how they don't want to go through the nanny process all over again. (Short back story, they hired 2 nannies before me and had to let both go because the one twin never got comfortable with them and would cry all day and due to her heart issue, it's very important that she not cry for long periods of time/get worked up.). I am glad that I was able to resolve this with them and that they were so understanding.

Nanny said no. Parents said they understood. Three weeks later she was let go. Parents wanted childcare lined up before letting her go.
OP here: Thanks for the input. We have in my contract that I must give them 3 weeks notice and same for them. If they let me go, they have to give me 3 weeks notice and they also put in 2 weeks severance pay. I doubt they will let me go but if so, I'll be covered while I search for a new job.
Hate to tell you this, but just because it is in your contract, that doesn't mean that they really have to do it. I had 6 weeks notice in mine as I was a live-in (who gave up my apartment for that position). I wanted to make sure that if I left, I had enough time to find a good apartment as well as new job. They decided to let me go after 6 months as they wanted someone that would work 60 hours a week (instead of the 40 I was doing), and gave me 3 weeks. No severance, even though that was included in the contract as well.

You absolutely SHOULD NOT be taking care of infants or any child with compromised immunity, or cardio or respiratory conditions. This is just irresponsible and the fact that you don't realize this means that you aren't even knowledgeable enough to be watching these kids in the first place.
There are many other industries where you only interact with adult populations. You need to get a job in a different field.
OP here: Wait..where did I say that I was anti-vaccination or anti-science or "afraid" of a flu shot? Oh yeah..I don't think that I did. I have been a nanny for SEVEN YEARS and every family that I have worked for has been FINE with me not getting a flu shot. Do not tell me that I have "no business working with children". It is MY body and if I don't believe in getting the flu shot, then that is my choice. That does not mean that I shouldn't work with kids. Please stop talking out of your ass. Thanks.
I have never gotten the flu shot and don't want to get it. I don't like some of the side effects and I just grew up in a house that didn't agree with getting all of these different shots.

OP you are ignorant and self centered. You are watching twins, one of which has a heart condition. Your BS over your body is not more important than the health of those kids and the advice of their doctor who is clearly more educated than you. You have no business watching these kids.
