lmao be a grown up? You are a moron. Do some research. MANY people don't get this shot. Some people don't want that shit in them.

The nannies saying to lie about it make the rest of us look bad. Just look for a position that doesn't require a flu shot, goodness.

It's really funny reading all these posts of nannies ranting here and there over non sense crap but when parents do it, they are bashed. Yes, as a nanny, I can admit that as it's true.

I am glad that I was able to resolve this with them and that they were so understanding.

Congratulations. I have a similar agreement with my employers and have had successfully for the past several months - everyone seems happy, I feel in no danger of losing my job. Glad your employers are equally respectful of the choices you're making about your own body!

14:41, get off yoursoap box and stop preaching. I get a flu shot every year but I do not impose this on anyone else. Do you requireeveryone in your office to have shot? No, you do not. So what are you going yo do if a colleague refusrs and passes flu around? You have your family innoculated for health and safety and this is how you protect yourselves.

OP, if your contract is not honored, take them to Small Claims Court.

OP here: Thanks for the input. We have in my contract that I must give them 3 weeks notice and same for them. If they let me go, they have to give me 3 weeks notice and they also put in 2 weeks severance pay. I doubt they will let me go but if so, I'll be covered while I search for a new job.

Hate to tell you this, but just because it is in your contract, that doesn't mean that they really have to do it. I had 6 weeks notice in mine as I was a live-in (who gave up my apartment for that position). I wanted to make sure that if I left, I had enough time to find a good apartment as well as new job. They decided to let me go after 6 months as they wanted someone that would work 60 hours a week (instead of the 40 I was doing), and gave me 3 weeks. No severance, even though that was included in the contract as well.

Sorry that you had that problem but I'm not worried about it.

You absolutely SHOULD NOT be taking care of infants or any child with compromised immunity, or cardio or respiratory conditions. This is just irresponsible and the fact that you don't realize this means that you aren't even knowledgeable enough to be watching these kids in the first place.

There are many other industries where you only interact with adult populations. You need to get a job in a different field.

OP here: Wait..where did I say that I was anti-vaccination or anti-science or "afraid" of a flu shot? Oh yeah..I don't think that I did. I have been a nanny for SEVEN YEARS and every family that I have worked for has been FINE with me not getting a flu shot. Do not tell me that I have "no business working with children". It is MY body and if I don't believe in getting the flu shot, then that is my choice. That does not mean that I shouldn't work with kids. Please stop talking out of your ass. Thanks.

In the very first post. You said you didn't like some of the side effects. Since you don't know what those side effects are for you, you are afraid. And PP was probably basing the anti-vaccine comment on you saying that your house didn't agree with "getting all of these different shots."

I have never gotten the flu shot and don't want to get it. I don't like some of the side effects and I just grew up in a house that didn't agree with getting all of these different shots.

OP you are ignorant and self centered. You are watching twins, one of which has a heart condition. Your BS over your body is not more important than the health of those kids and the advice of their doctor who is clearly more educated than you. You have no business watching these kids.

Wait...where does it say that their doctor recommended it? You are a idiot.

Post 12/10/2012 14:41     Subject: Re:Flu Shot

Preemie mom here. I included annual flu shots and receipts as a job requirement. I put the receipt requirement for tax reasons. It never occurred to me that anyone would lie about this. I'm glad that I required proof after reading some of these posts.

1. You don't get the flu from a flu shot. Correlation does not equal causation. Many people can't distinguish between the flu and a cold. Its likely that many of you who are convinced that you got the flu from the flu shot actually ended up with something viral not the flu.

2. As an adult, you are doing far more harmful things to your body and increasing your chances of developing a terminal illness later in life by eating fast food, not exercising, or other common things than getting a flu shot. You take far more risks in your daily life and the scientific evidence really does show that a flu shot is very low risk. You have a higher risk of experiencing complications from having the flu than complications from the vaccine. Avoiding the flu and other respiratory diseases, reduces your risk of more likely chronic disorders long term.

3. It is important for childcare providers of children with health conditions to get vaccinated. This isn't a conspiracy from big pharma. The AAP is not out to get you or sell shots.

4. The fact that the flu shot is not 100% is even more reason not less as to why childcare providers should have the vaccine. Vaccines are never 100% effective in the entire population. Herd immunity protects those for which the vaccine is less effective. This means vaccinating you can protect the child for whom it is less effective.

5. Any nanny who doesn't understand this should visit a NICU and see the infants and toddlers hospitalized for flu. Its eye opening.
