Uh... typically a Nanny has a work week like the rest of America and doesn't expect to go 2 weeks "without income" because you "don't need her for those two weeks,"- Every seasoned Nanny knows this trick and its the oldest used in the book- typically by unprofessional or cheap families that Nannies who have been in the game long enough know well to stay clear of. If I ever hear from a family that they go on vacation throughout the year and expect the Nanny to just "figure it out," I tell them in my mind- to go straight to you know where and kindly move on to the next family.

One thing I find amazing about this area is that families don't realize the amount of people in this area needing childcare- daycares are packed or on wait lists into years from now- and Nannies are the only recourse. We don't need you and can find another family so don't disrespect her by leaving her income less because you are too cheap to be fair and reasonable. You can't have your cake and it it too. I hope she leaves you high and dry!

Do you expect your nanny to guarantee her availability during the hours of x-y? Would you like to compete with others for her time on a weekly basis? No? Then, you should likely guarantee her hours.

If the parents hope that the nanny will still be around when they get back from their holiday, they had best pay her as usual, or the nanny will get another job. That simple.

That's a big mistake nannies make, NOT negotiating for paid vacation upfront, but any decent employer who value their nanny should realize that her paycheck is her livelihood & most likely her ONLY means of support and WOULD pay her for vacation time, she didn't send u on vacation & being a nanny is a REAL job that comes with reasonable benefits. If your child was in a daycare I'm sure u have to pay when the child don't go in, so it's only fair you pay her for that week off. After all she's not there for your convenience in a pay as u work system.

No. There is no "right" to get paid. It's a perk. Make sure you include it in your contract!

She does have to "right" to get herself another (paying) job while they're gone.
