It eventually washes away since it is water-soluble.
I think it is made of flour/dye/salt anyway.

I would never ask my babysitter or nanny to scrape it off the ground.
Just like I wouldn’t ever ask her to scrub colored chalk out of the driveway or sidewalk either.

Smh.

Mom here. Agree. Playboy will not hurt tires. It would wash out of the treads on any wet day.

Your employers are neat freaks.

I agree.
Anyone who is a parent knows that kids will make a mess when doing any activity.
Such is their nature.
And playing Playdoh is a benign activity……

And, that's why you cover the surface and put it on a tray to protect things.

This is on point.

I would have fired my nanny had she allowed my children to play with playdough outdoors.
Every parent/nanny knows that playdough is an indoor activity ONLY.

Op, you sound very inexperienced.
At worst inept.
Especially letting playdough dry out on someone else’s cement driveway.

I bet if it was your driveway you would understand.
I say this with all due respect.

In answer to your question, I would try to talk this out with your employers.
Just my 2 cents but I feel it was irresponsible of you to let your charges play with Playdoh outside. Most kids like to play with it indoors and usually not on the ground. Couldn’t you have taken it inside the house? Then the kids and you could have played with it on a table.

What about letting young kids write and draw with colored sidewalk chalk?? That also gets embedded in the concrete, cement as well but most parents let their kids use it on their property. In fact, I even see kids’ markings on my neighborhood sidewalks and parks too.
Kids like to play, oftentimes they are very messy.

If my child’s care provider were not watching them say by setting them in front of the tv set or scrolling on her phone and not doing her job and my kids colored all over my walls with crayons, markers or finger paints I would be angry and expect my nanny to clean up the mess.
But a nanny playing with a modeling compound in our driveway is a nanny doing her job. Sure it would have been more practical to keep the playdough on newspaper, but overlooking that and leaving playdough crumbs on my driveway is truly not negligence on the part of the provider.

I much prefer they play it outside because it is so hard getting it out of our rugs.

Anyone with common sense puts something down on the surface to protect it.

All of this over playdo???????
I would be pissed off if my nanny was on her phone, not watching my kids and my kids ended up squirting glue all over the furniture or if they finger painted the kitchen cabinets or ??

But a nanny who played with playdo on my driveway?
That would be awesome!
At least I would know that she interacted with my kids and that they obviously had fun.
Better than leaving the kids in front of the tv or on their tablets or iPads.
Kids these days rarely play outside. They spend so much time looking at screens so I would be cool if someone encouraged my kids to have fun outdoors.

Wow, just wow.

Any parent with small children should be grateful that they have a nanny who actively engages with their kids.
I hear complaints all the time amongst my parent friends how they are so annoyed that their nannies seem bored when around their children…..how some are always on their Smartphones or use the TV to entertain their little ones.
OP, the parent/dad should be grateful that you participated in a fun activity with his kids.
If he didn’t want playdough on his driveway, then why did he even have it in his house??

If he cannot park his car in his driveway due to their being leftover playdough stuck on the concrete then he is going to have a rude awakening as the kid years go by.
Kids (especially young ones!) constantly mess up stuff - such is their nature.
If this is the worst thing you have done he needs to thank his lucky stars.

I once had a nanny years ago who used to bring colored chalk to work and she and my kids went to town drawing all over the back patio, sidewalk, driveway…..it looked messy afterward but that is just what kids do.

It’s only playdough on the driveway.
Geez, it’s not like you had crayon or marker drawings all over their wall.
Or worse, stickers stuck to their wooden floor!!

I wouldn’t want to work for anyone who would be okay with me scraping or cleaning their concrete.
Unless I was a handyman.

Sorry but that's nuts. The mom asked you but it's your job to say no. I've never seen kids playing with play doh on the ground, next time say ok but bring a table so that the children can play ON the table, and then it's easy to clean up the mess.

The dad was right to ask you to scrape off the remaining pieces of dough. You should have been smarter in the first place.

-Nanny

I could never ask my nanny to do anything so demeaning as scrape anything off of my driveway.
Slavery is illegal.
What a horrible way to treat the person in charge of your kids!
If I were annoyed I would have helped her or just scraped it off myself.

Stop with this 'slavery' nonsense. It's an unbelievable insult to those whose ancestors were actual slaves. She's not a slave and not being treated like one.

OP, you should have put something down on top of the driveway. As another mentioned, the playdoh will get rocks and dirt in it and get ruined. I wouldn't quit over something like this. It's interesting you've been with them for two years -- has something like this ever happened before? Surely the kids have had messy toys and activities in two years?
