We are (very sadly) parting ways with our beloved nanny of four years now that our youngest daughter is entering kindergarten. Our nanny, Bapou, is looking for a new full time position, preferably in the Chevy Chase or Bethesda area, as of the beginning of September. Bapou has been a steady and loving presence in our lives and has provided incredible support in raising our girls. The quality of candidates is just not there. We used to get lawyers who needed to pay off student loans and other college graduates. We don't have anyone with college degree right now or anyone will to work.
I had to come out of early retirement just to help out in May. Three of my ex employers are calling me every few months. Not sure if closing the borders is why there are no workers left.
The work ethic I saw in early 2000s, just doesn't exist anymore.

Not weird at all. Working in a restaurant in much easier than being a nanny.

Nannies do NOT manage households. They do NOT do grocery shopping. That is household manager position. By posting that your nanny did all those things, including cleaning/organizing, you are basically saying that you either found a fool who did 2 jobs for a price of one, or most likely, she did not focus on kids at all and they were just on their own while she was used up as a cook or cleaner.
