I'm not surprised. That's why, as a nanny, that I always get meaningful gifts but cheap ones.

If you are the nanny, don't you have access to the kids' rooms, toys, and books?

It's easy for books to be somewhere hidden in a big house.

It's possible they got rid of the items but that would reflect poorly on their judgment, knowing that you might notice.

If they opened gifts at another location (grandma's house), they might be there.

Most nanny families/parents can afford to buy whatever toys their child wants.

They do not want too many toys in the house as it just makes more clutter later on to clean up.

I would prefer my nanny to not gift my kids. Instead I would prefer she spend the money on her own family because childcare IS tough work, and she deserves to treat herself as well as her loved ones……

Since Nannies typically make much less than their employers I think it is fair to assume that many nanny families do not expect their Nannie’s to provide birthday or Christmas presents for their kids.
And since kids these days have a huge plethora of toys, books, etc. then they really do not want all of that extra clutter.

It isn’t wise to gift your charges new toys in this day and age.
What the parents would have appreciated more would have been a book with a personal note inside or maybe a monetary donation to their college fund.

Now THIS seems seriously inappropriate on the parents' part. You want your nanny to give money to you?

Erm...but kids do! Are you suggesting that there are parents out there who don't provide/allow their children toys? I have seen a lot of weird shit, but never this.

I’m sorry your gifts disappeared. I wouldn’t take it personally. It sounds like you gave great toys and the parents weren’t very considerate of your feelings. Our nanny gave our 3 year old a Bluey stuffie and it’s an absolute favorite! She also gave our baby some wonderful toys he plays with daily. Personally, I think nannies are able to give the best gifts because they know exactly what the kids already have and what their interests are. But even when a relative gives a gift that is a miss, I keep it out for their next few visits so they know it was appreciated.

The kids parents do not want to appear ungrateful so they won’t tell you directly not to give their child any gifts however they are hoping that you will get the message that they prefer you not buy gifts for the kids.

There are a multitude of reasons for this, could be the kids have too many toys but they probably feel bad that you are spending your hard-earned money on them when they can afford to buy gifts.

Perhaps next time gift a book for their child’s personal library.
