How can a nanny create an "environment"? She comes into something that parents already "created". It is up to the parents most of the time. Nanny can make suggestions of course.

The only way to find out is to interview candidates and ask the ones you like about their rates. There is wide variety in nanny pay. Find the candidate you like and see what they charge.

I agree, nannies should be able to earn more, but for earning more they should also increase their qualifications and invest in their career.

A nanny earning $28 which is a salary of $60k needs to hold at least a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, with the ability to create a preschool classroom level environment at home for the child.

Like any other profession, to increase the salary from $15 to $30, the individual has to invest in their own education and additional training to increase their pay scale. You can not place an overall pay level on a broad job title such as a nanny, and regard all qualifications the same.

I am sorry that housekeepers earn $18. It is a back breaking job. I however think that nannies deserve $28+ if there are families that can afford it.

There are thousands of nannies on care.com looking for a job. Care lists the average going rate for a nanny in DC to be $22.

Instead of writing about the love and care you provide for the child, you only listed the housekeeping duties. A few hotels in DC including the Hilton are currently hiring at $18-$19/hr for housekeeping, with zero down time. That would be more suitable for what you listed because you don't sound like a caring loving nanny.

Your rate is is a good reasonable rate and you should easily find someone. If you live in McLean then many nannies come from around 30 mins from you which makes your pool of options even larger than someone who lives in the district.

Nannies on these boards often inflate the rate. Start looking around, make a job description with exactly what you want... hours, very specific responsibilities like if they will need to do laundry, exactly what sort of clean up, etc. Then ask potential candidates what their rate is to do your specific job description. If they give you a range, tell them you are not comfortable with that and need a number. After you talk to a few, you will have a better sense of the going rate. Pay them what they ask for. Don't negotiate. Your choice who to hire based on what they ask for, but you don't want someone coming in who feels like they are underpaid off the bat. If what they ask for seems too high, don't hire them.

Nanny here, making $28 per hr with one child. I am expecting to be getting a raise next year. Would not accept $25.
