With regard to the mom, she sounds mentally ill. I would not tolerate that behavior from my employer. Not only would I quit (I dont think you need to give her the courtesy of two weeks unless you want to), I would explicitly explain why you are quitting. Her whispering with her husband in the kitchen was probably him telling her what a fool she was, which is why she then came back and thanked you 2x.
Of course you were judging. I have three children and all have popped a diaper while sleeping and woke up crying because of poopy diaper.

This can be hard for working moms; you leave your precious baby and have to trust they’re ok. It’s difficult not to be triggered by that crying. She probably struggles with her own feelings, which has nothing to do with OP, and let that comment slip. She felt bad, and she and her husband discussed why the comment was inappropriate and she tried to smooth things over without directly apologizing. OP, you did nothing wrong. The mom is having a hard time
I sick of hearing "moms and their precious babies". If they're so precious to you, stay home and take care of your child.
You check references of the nanny
and you run a criminal check and some of you really invade their privacy by running a credit check. If you can't trust the nanny with all of this then hire someone else or stay home with your child.

No, no. Stop making excuses for the mother. If she doesn't trust OP then she quits her job and takes care of her own child. What she did was say that she does not trust OP and is accusing her of hurting her child.
The trust is broken irretrievably. Words spoken cannot be taken back.

Well in my experience 10 month olds don’t poop while they are sleeping. They might poop in their crib and then fall asleep or they might wake up and poop. But poop while they’re sleeping? Lol, no. You might want to have your kids checked for incontinence issues…
