I would much rather have nanny at home and helping with kid related things than taking my car to get an oil change.....

Making lunches for the next day

Prep things for grab and go - on the way to an activity or after school before piano lesson

Going through clothing and getting rid of stained / ripped / ratty thing

Make list of things kids need more of -- new rain jacket, more mittens, - could even give Amazon access and she can make a cart for your approval

I could imagine going to pick up an item or two - we need more strawberries, but I would not make grocery shopping part of her to-dos

Set up obstacle course so kids can ride through it when they get come from school

Obviously the Nanny is helping to volunteer, because she is free and has nothing to do in the morning when her charges are at school. She has been paid all her guaranteed hours whether kids are schoolof not. Most of the nannies would also be happy offering to volunteer. If not, she would be llooking for some extra hours to compensate those hours that OP cut off to her.

Some ideas here:

• Loading/Unloading the dishwasher every day
• Taking out the trash + recycling
• Organize children’s toys/books/puzzles/etc.
• Walk the dog
• Cut vegetables or fruit
• Costco runs
• Library book returns
• Pharmacy pick-ups
• Vehicle maintenance

I love the idea of the Nanny to volunteer at child’s school!

I do, and so does my employer... If there's nothing wrong with the item, but it's not to the person's taste after it was ordered for them, there is no free option for pickup. When we order books that are $8-15 each, but pick up would cost $10-16, we do drop off at UPS.

My charge also has three book subscriptions. We box back up anything we don't know for sure that he'll read and drop it off at USPS. There is no free pick up option.

OP post is a little confusing. Because she says Her nanny happily is looking for " Some Extra Hours" and offered to do some task while kids in school. So Why a nanny "will be looking for extra hours?" If mom is paying whole hours while kids at school. If Mom says she is looking for "Some extra hours" I believe that Nanny is not being payed her guarantee hours while kids are in school. So probably mom cut off those morning hours; bcs the kids are at school and the nanny has not being paid?
If you says You would feel comfortable taking on some Task, and the volunteer thing while your charges at at school; I am agree with you. But the diferente here is that "your position and her" is just be completely different. Because Your employer probably never cut off your hours when your charges started school and maybe This employee did cut off some hours to her; while the kids are at school. That's why maybe the Nanny is looking for "some extra hours" because she has not been paying all her guarantee hours like you. I think so.

As a nanny, I would feel more comfortable taking on extra tasks than sitting on my butt. I’ve volunteered at my charges’ school in the past and done various home management tasks when my former charge started school. I hope to do the same with my current family.

Ohhh is this what the mom is doing? I thought she has been nice paying all her guaranteed hrs; no matter kids are or not at school. I have understood she is trying to help her nanny with extra task, since the nanny was looking to make extra more money outside her work hours.


Or, she can let the nanny go and find someone who will work less hours.

I’m the poster that got paid while the kids were at school. I didn’t get paid to do nothing, I was still on call incase of school closures or if a child was sick. My employers decided to pay without expecting any extra tasks. So no, I don’t find that absurd.
