You still run into rematch and inflated experience, but you're more likely to find someone competent.

Nice try, au pair, but you signed up for a program where you can be required to work on weekends. Parents take care of their kids during the 123 (or more) hours per week that the au pair isn't working.
Half our family friends use au pair hours on the weekend. Especially for driving around one or two bigger kids, and the doctor families.

Agree with with everyone who said Special Needs Nanny.
Since APs can easily.exaggerate their experience, you are taking a big chance here if they oversell. All the things can go wrong are multiplied if it doesn't work out with your ASD child.
As suggested if they're assigned the NT kid, you might stand a chance but you have to be realistic about why most APs are APs and consider the elevated impact on your family. Keep in mind, standards of appropriate discipline vary by country.
You could get lucky & there are probably wonderful APs for this role but you won't know until they're in your home.

OP needs to give the NT kid to the au pair to take care of. The asd kid? That's mama and dad's job!

A Pairs are not the right fit. I have seen many time yelling at their charges at playgrounds when parents are not around and they just chatting with their friends. They are not patient at all with a typical kid. I can't pic how they will be able to handle a situation or meltdown with a special needs kid.
