The IRS is so backed up they likely do not have the resources on hand to investigate Nannie’s working off the books.
Plus if they did that, they also would have to investigate restaurants and beauty/massage parlors where workers get ca$h tips on a daily basis.
I ordered pizza a few nights ago and gave the delivery guy a cash tip.

I agree.
Many Nannies are making less than the minimum wage but their employers claim that since they are not deducting taxes that it all “evens out” in the end.
What??!
So if minimum wage is $15/hr they can pay $13/hr and get away with it.

I live in CA where there is a large pool of illegal immigrants.
Many of these are women who work domestically as either house cleaners and/or Nannies.
Or some also are single mothers receiving welfare, food stamps and/or Section 8.
They primarily want to work off the books so that they can continue receiving government benefits.
Or stay in this country.
What I personally find despicable is that I know many families who are paying $10-13/HR (our minimum wage is currently $15/HR) but say that their Nannies are getting a great deal since no taxes are being deducted this evening everything up.
Sure - I understand that working under-the-table is illegal.
But for employers not to pay minimum wage nor OT pay because it is off the books is just wrong.
Everyone who employs someone should pay at least minimum wage.

People we interviewed with kids were ok with $42k on the books, and cash pay for the rest because they didn’t want to lose their welfare benefits, snap, housing vouchers, Medicaid, free metro passes, etc.

$625 before taxes. Around $400 something after taxes. Not worth it at all. Of course the nanny is asking to be paid under the table.
