If a family does not wish for the Nanny they have coming to their house via bus/metro due to possible exposure issues due to covid and ask if the Nanny would take an Uber/Lyft to and from work then that family needs to provide the fund for the Nanny to do such in addition to their salary.

This is more about employers who want nannies to drive themselves to work. Many people prefer a nanny who isn’t taking metro or metro bus these days.

PS she is vaccinated and wears a mask on the bus. The bus is never crowded (we are in MD, it’s not a city bus). We feel comfortable with this.

No, due to Covid they want you to have your own car.

Illegal
How you get to work is your business

Not illegal— if you’re taking the metro to work you’re exposing the child to whoever else was on the red line that morning. “Takes the metro” is not a protected class of people against whom it is illegal to discriminate.

People are required to wear a mask at all times, a Metro Bus Driver will see to it that no one steps on his or her bus without a mask. Now you have people who are not required to wear a mask in grocery stores, beauty stores restaurants etc! Taking public transportation is the last thing one should worry about!

Yeah, no. Distancing is at least as important if not more to spread prevention than masking. You can distance much more easily in a big box grocery store than in an enclosed public bus.

And employers who are concerned for their unvaccinated children ask about Covid precautions and vaccination status. The metro is a risk factor, not the only risk factor.

Are you allowed to ask?
Part of a lift club, take Uber, bus, train, bicycle, motorcycle

Yes, you are absolutely allowed to ask. This is not a protected category in any way. You have the right to make sure that your employee can a reliable way to work everyday, that she'll be on time, and that any health safeguards can be met (ie. she needs to shower after metro, if you have an immunocompromised child).

My old nanny was 60 and her retired husband drove her nearly every day. Way before covid.
