I got the first shot and had and strong reaction, I thought I was having facial paralysis, lucky you for being able to get the two shots, I am not going to.

What did your doctor say? PP, facial paralysis is serious and most likely had nothing to do with the vaccine.

Well, I'm a different nanny. I didn't expect severe side effects to the first, but I had some (disorientation, nausea, dizziness, confusion, trouble breathing). I consulted with my doctor, and due to my risk factors if I got covid, we determined that it was worth the risk of getting the second shot. My side effects were much worse with the second shot (dizziness increased so that I couldn't stand, trouble breathing, temporary partial paralysis of my left leg), but my doctor was aware and I would have been hospitalized if it had gotten worse.

My doctor did note the paralysis, and since the vaccine was the only difference in my daily routine, it was definitely a side effect. Now they're finding a higher rate of myocarditis, especially in males 12-30. That's not my demographic, but it would definitely make me pause and talk to my teen boy's doctor before deciding to vaccinate.

I understand why people don't want to vaccinate themselves and/or their children. This vaccine is only approved for emergency use, it hasn't gone through the full approval process which notes side effects and their statistical probability. If the government chooses to mandate vaccines for everyone, and the public is made aware that there is an infinitesimal chance that they'll have long-term side effects, I'm fine with that. Otherwise, it's up to each of us to discuss with our doctors and make the best choice we can with the information available to us at the time. This includes understanding that employers want vaccinated employees, so they may need to find a different position.

We di have a history of requiring vaccines in epidemic situations. When the government REQUIRES it, there's no choice. But until it's a mandate? You still have a choice, and it's not up to any other person to deny someone their choice.

Ugh. That is annoying to learn something like that unexpectedly. We made vaccinations a requirement and put in contract that COVID vaccine would be required once available. Nanny ended up getting her vaccine before we were vaccinated! It was great. But yes the pandemic has opened our eyes to things that need to be in nanny contracts and uncomfortable conversations that need to happen to make sure we are all on the same page. I hope we never need another nanny and this one stays forever (j/k but not really but really) because we are aligned in all things.

Always require vaccinations (tDAP, measles, flu, covid) and ask for proof. I’ve overheard foreign nannies, not knowing I speak Spanish, talk about how they lie about being vaccinated.

A nanny who won’t get vaccinated is selfish (and stupid). The biggest part about being a nanny is caring about the kids in her care and keeping them safe. A nanny who won’t get the shot didn’t care about your kids. I live in LA and every single new job I’ve seen posted requires the vaccine. Get a new nanny!!

Being anti-vaccine means you don't do any vaccines. There is not full approval yet for the COVID vaccine and its not the same kind of vaccine as other ones. If you want, fire her. She'll easily find a new job.

This is why we need clarity from OP.

A nanny who is anti-vax for ALL vaccines is not the same thing as a nanny who doesn’t want the covid vaccine (especially since J&J).

Most parents won’t hire a nanny who is against all vaccines. A nanny with that preference should seek out families with similar ideals.

Nannies who don’t want the covid vaccine but generally do the rest are a special case. Most parents want fully vaccinated nannies, including covid.

We’re in the middle of a global pandemic where there is no vaccine against covid for children. While there are some employers who may let a nanny’s refusal to get a flu or measles vaccine slide, they’re thinking very differently about a refusal to get a covid vaccine during a covid epidemic.

The vaccine is supposed to reduce the impact of covid on the individual taking the vaccine. There is still a risk that you can get and pass on covid even vaccinated. Behavior of both the family and nanny are equally important in protecting kids.

The covid vaccine is also important to stop the spread and mutation. It’s vital that those with contact with children are vaccinated.

Its not vital and not fully approved. Behavior is vital.

The vaccine is vital to stop the spread/mutation and it is absolutely approved!! Geez, would you have turned down the polio vaccine when it had emergency approval? Do you see people dying from the vaccine?

Stop being an idiot. For a nanny, the vaccine is absolutely mandatory. Get the vaccine or find another career.

This! Our nanny got vaccinated as soon as she was available. We did the same.
