She is probably just illegal and has no choice but to accept $15, poor thing. She is being exploited.

She’s an idiot if she’s taking $15/hr for 2 kids. Only a certain kind of person would want an idiot raising their kids.

Teacher friend of mine just left teaching (16 years) and decided to do nannying while getting her new home-based business off the ground this next year or 2. She takes care of 2 kids, 5 hours a day, $25/hour on the books. Some benefits. Bethesda. I am surprised she is not getting more. No cleaning/chores, of course. She also tutors Spanish and French, but that is about 5 hours a week at $65/hour. Cash only.

My sister is a nanny, southern California. 2 kids, $30/hour plus full benefits (3 weeks vacation, 50% health care paid, all federal holidays, 12 sick days, etc.) on the books. She works 35 hours a week. She is also a personal trainer, about 10 clients a week, and makes $150/hour for that. Retired PE teacher.

One year is very, very, VERY short experience. Most families want 5+. So, they offer a bit more for that.

American nanny with one year of daycare experience prior to coming to us. We pay her $22 for 40 hours ($20 for the first kid than $22 for the second) plus 5 hours of time and a half per week. Two weeks paid vacation and certain number of sick days that I don’t recall. She has been with us for a year and a half. Oh and a Christmas bonus of one week salary.

We live in a affluent DC neighborhood.

Remember the rates on this board are always on the high side

1 child can range from $17-23/hr
2 children $22-25/hr

The rates vary because of experience, education and responsibilities which all play a factor. A young caregiver that doesn’t really have responsibilities and have less than 5 years of professional childcare experience are the ones who are paid the $15-18/hr rate.

We pay $20/hr in Fairfax and our nanny tells me that’s above-average for one child. I do think it’s probably really idiosyncratic though to the unique position you’re offering and what you’re expecting from the nanny.

I am a nanny. I don't believe any nanny would accept $15.50 or $16, even $17 an hr unless it's their first job. Even teacher's positions in the area (to work in a daycare) pay $18 with some benefits and MUCH less personal responsibility. And I am talking about pre-covid times. Should be more now when nanny is risking getting covid while working, especially if one of the kids attends school with much more possible covid exposure.

Wow...this is so much cheaper. In NW DC, it's $22-$25/hour plus benefits for one child!

Care.com is probably reliable as they pull data from their Home Pay payroll service - rather than say, self-reporting.

Same.

We paid $15/hr one child with $1 raise each year until topped out at $20/ hr, then we paid retention bonuses every 6 months depending on performance. Cash.
She prob gets 5-8 weeks paid vacation when we take ours, plus use of our vehicle.
She has a lot of down time w kid in school now or camps.

Is that a joke? Yeah right. I bet many nannies will be waiting in line to take a Job with that ridiculous rate. Very very very low rate.
