Clean up the dishes if you have time and are just sitting around. Don't worry about it if you are racing around frantically and dealing with a baby. Use normal human consideration but don't stress about it.

However, if your nanny won’t arrive until 8.15, that’s not practical. In your case, just make sure that the nanny isn’t left any drying pots or pans; leaving an oatmeal pot or egg pan in the sink is fine.

You are crazy. Oatmeal and eggs are the nastiest to clean. Those pans would still be waiting for you to clean when you get home. Nannies only clean what is messed up on their watch.

As long as they run water in them, I wash them at lunch. Oatmeal and eggs don’t stick when the pan is full of water for hours.

Our nanny comes at 8 with the understanding that she feeds kids breakfast (pre schooler and toddler. So she cleans their dishes. Sometimes we start breakfast right before she comes or rarely are done if they got up really early. She still does the dishes ok those days unless it was so early i had time to put them in the dishwasher if i bad breakfast with the kids. Nanny doesn't care and doesn't stress about it. Its 2 plates and cups and forks. Rarely a pot from oatmeal. On the flip side, we come home early and let her go home with pay (guaranteed hours) and are flexible about arrival time (with pay and communication) on inclement weather days etc.
