I work with an infant and wear a mask during the day. It’s not uncomfortable and he’s still able to “see” me smiling as I use my eyes for emotions. Fwiw newborns now were born into the pandemic they’ve been seeing masked people since day 1

I would find a new nanny job. That's just cruel to do to an infant. You people are so stupid. It's fortunate you have someone else raising your kids.

If you suddenly spring this on a nanny that you never mentioned it to previously, she will start looking for another job immediately. It's also bad for your baby AND unlikely to do much in the context of how intimate her interaction with your baby will be.

We do not require our live-out nanny to wear a mask. She wears one outside. I think there’s an inherent amount of risk with having someone in your house for 8+ hours per day. We need the childcare to work, wearing a mask all day would be very uncomfortable for her, and I think my children benefit from seeing her face.

My children are in an in home daycare and their caregiver wears a mask. That was her own choice - I think it may be a requirement by the licensing system. Anyway the first week we sent our kids back to her in June she ended up sick with Covid that Sunday. Our kids did not get sick and I’m sure she attributes that to a mask. I’m pretty sure she is used to wearing the mask now and my kids have wonderful bilingual
Verbal skills and love her. My 15 month old was barely talking and vocabulary exploded once she went back with her after 3 months away. Of course it could be a coincidence but it certainly didn’t make it impossible. I’m not sure what we would do if we had a nanny in our home but if we asked her to wear a mask then we would as well.

Huh ?! That doesn’t even make sense. The baby got covid but parents didn’t? They don’t touch/kiss the baby? If the virus wasn’t spreading so fast and easily there would be no mess in this world now...

Sure it’s possible. The parents work and never see the child during the week. If the baby wakes up at 7, but the parents are already gone for the day, then the baby is asleep by 7, the parents have no time with the baby during the week.

I’ve worked two positions in which the kids literally never saw their parents during the week unless they woke up with a nightmare or because they wet the bed.

I can’t marine eating outside while my charge is inside. None of the families with whom I interviewed who wanted masks were willing to let me eat OT drink inside. So yes, this is a valid question. What arrangements did you make for your nanny to eat and drink?

+1 Agreed . What was with the sky is talking post , that person is the idiot in my personal opinion.
In these times it is reasonable to have yourself and nanny wear mask . Of course it’s better for children to see faces but safety of the child is even more important .

We ask our nanny to wear a mask, but we do the same when we're in the same space as her. I'd only ask if you're willing to do the same.

As a medical professional and parent to a young child we chose to only consider live-in due to this concern. If we hired live-out, we would require a mask.
